Canadian Olympic Experience visitors at interactive exhibit
Overview

In 2018, at its headquarters in Montreal, the Canadian Olympic Committee unveiled a brand new visitor experience celebrating Canada's involvement in the Olympics.

GSM Project was mandated to design, build, and install a highly interactive and immersive Canadian Olympic Experience in three distinct spaces on the ground floor of the Canadian Olympic headquarters.

Bringing fans closer to their favorite Olympians

One of the key objectives of the project included bringing visitors closer to the Canadian Olympic Movement and its athletes, allowing them to live for themselves the excitement of the Olympic Games. Not only that, it was also important to create an experience that caters to a wide audience, all while paying special attention to inspiring youth to discover a passion for sport.

Size yourself up to discover your Olympic sport

In the second phase of the project, we collaborated closely with the Committee to develop the highly interactive Canadian Olympic Experience. The journey begins in the first zone, where visitors are engaged physically, getting the chance to try out their favorite Olympic sports. First, visitors create an athletic profile, putting their physical strengths and abilities to the test to discover the sports that best suit them. Then, they get their hearts pumping with sports simulators that immerse them in 4 Olympic events: 100m sprint, two-man bobsleigh, freestyle skiing moguls and fencing.

Follow the athletes on their journey to the Games

In the second zone, visitors discover Canada’s story at the Olympics, travelling across more than 100 years of important milestones and coming face-to-face with the demanding journey every athlete must embark on to make it to the Games. Through 6 themes—Ignite, Persevere, Improve, Share, Perform and Transcend—visitors get an intimate look into the everyday lives of Canadian Olympians, while discovering the positive impact of past Games on Canada, as well as what the future holds for the Canadian Olympic Movement. The exhibition blends bold scenography and graphics, archival images, artifacts, original video content and interactive games, showcasing the Canadian Olympic Committee’s involvement in supporting Canada at the Games.

Immerse yourself in the Canadian Olympic Movement

In the third zone, visitors go an emotional journey, thanks to an immersive multimedia show that uses a curved video wall, ceiling projection spaces, as well as a complete sound and light show. Here, Canadians can experience the Olympics as they connect us as a nation, witnessing the greatest and most emotional moments played out before them and leaving with a better understanding of what the Canadian Olympic Movement means for all of us. Taking visitors on a journey of Olympic excellence, from the beginning to the end of one game, one event, one race, the show weaves together existing footage from all sports and athletes—summer, winter, male and female athletes, and even the fan's experience.
