Alaska exhibition about to reopen its doors in Anchorage
Three years in the making, one of our latest projects is just about to approach the finish line, as our production team, on-site at the Anchorage Museum, tends to the final details. A completely reimagined Alaska exhibition, originally opened in the 1980s, is about to be unveiled to the public.

The largest museum in Alaska, the Anchorage Museum is a community-based institution that presents exhibitions and programming exploring the art, history, and cultures of Alaska. In recent years, the museum embarked on a major project - an impressive expansion that’s set to open on September 15th. As part of this revamp, the re-envisioned Alaska exhibition will present a contemporary approach to the telling of Alaska’s history that seeks to include all voices and perspectives, and most importantly those of Indigenous cultures of Alaska.

Alaska is a story of place, and its people are the storytellers. The landscape affects the people who live here, and the landscape is affected by the people who make this place home.

Anchorage Museum Curator of Alaska History and Cultures

Back in 2014, we teamed up with the Anchorage Museum to bring their vision for the new permanent exhibition from concept to reality. Collaborating with their internal project team - curators, conservators, artists, historians, and many others, our team of more than 40 here at GSM Project have designed and built the museum’s flagship visitor experience.

The Alaska exhibition tells the story of Alaska from prehistory to today, featuring over 400 artifacts from communities across the state and addressing in particular the relationship between people and landscape in this unique part of the world. After dozens of trips to Alaska, and with the grand opening in full sight, we are so thrilled to share the final results of a wonderful collaboration. Stay tuned for a first look inside the brand new Alaska exhibition, but for now, here's a sneak peek behind the scenes!
